Parenting and Social Entrepreneurship

Learn more

Description

This Collaboration provides a safe space for members to connect, share experiences, and learn. It focuses on balancing social entrepreneurship with parenting, addressing practical challenges, and offering support through shared ideas and solutions. The Parenting and Social Entrepreneurship Collaboration of Catalyst Now began during the last Catalysing Change Week in May 2023. Catalyst members interested in mental health and wellbeing held a meeting on Parenting and were delighted, and perhaps a little surprised, at the number of people who attended. There was real enthusiasm for the topic and the many stories shared about the joys and difficulties of bringing up children whilst championing some of the most demanding challenges of the day. As the discussion progressed it seemed as if at times the gruelling challenge of running a social organisation is overwhelming and takes up all the space in a person’s life some of which should be reserved for children and, indeed, family and friends more widely. Some of those attending were managing their family as single parents, others were yet to begin the parenting journey but were thinking of it, others came to the meeting as grandparents. The meeting was blessed with folk from diverse regions of the world and so the question of parenting and social entrepreneurship is clearly strongly influenced by culture and this was shared to some extent. The Collaboration will focus on practical matters, for example how to share, with your child if you work in domestic violence or how to travel with your kids whilst at the same time being “at work”. Knowing that this is not a “one size fits all” kind of question we are keen to create a safe space for sharing anxieties, worries, ideas and practical solutions. The Collaboration is currently co-chaired by Rosemary Gathara, Hannah Morillo, Kate Sachs Leventhal and Chris Underhill.

Renewable Energy & Clean Living for Agriculture, Innovation & Mobility (RECLAIM)

Learn more

Description

A transformative initiative designed to advance integrated, sustainable ecosystems by aligning clean energy with food security, equitable innovation, and resilient mobility. Rooted in the principles of climate justice and community empowerment, RECLAIM envisions a future where technology and tradition converge to regenerate rural economies and strengthen frontline communities. At its core, RECLAIM fosters the deployment of decentralized renewable energy systems—such as solar microgrids and energy storage—strategically interwoven with sustainable agriculture, smart water systems, and low-emission mobility solutions. This holistic approach supports energy independence for farmers, enhances climate-resilient crop production, and provides clean transportation alternatives for rural and remote communities. The initiative is deeply community-centric, co-designed with local stakeholders—including indigenous groups, agricultural cooperatives, non-profits, and youth innovators. RECLAIM serves not only as an infrastructure model but as a platform for education, and technological exchange, promoting inclusive innovation and long-term economic empowerment. By integrating digital twin simulations, policy frameworks, and nature-based solutions, RECLAIM bridges gaps between engineering, ecology, and equity. It addresses urgent global challenges—climate change, food insecurity, and energy poverty—through a replicable and scalable framework adaptable across geographies. Whether implemented in the wetlands of Florida, the highlands of Cameroon, or rural India, RECLAIM stands for more than clean energy—it is a blueprint for clean living, guided by science, spirit, and the power of partnership.

Description

Description: This collaboration began as a way to share experiences among healthcare professionals using telemedicine technology to care for their patients. Initially, information was exchanged between projects in Argentina, Venezuela, and Colombia. Later, an effort was made to replicate in Bolivia the healthcare model of the UMANA organization (Argentina), which operates through a network of doctors and tools like a WhatsApp bot to provide low-cost services. Currently, the collaboration continues through direct connections among some members, although not all remain active. The attempt to implement the model in Bolivia has faced challenges, especially in forming a solid medical network, but the team is still exploring alternatives. Despite the difficulties, the exchange of methods has proven valuable and has inspired partial adaptations in other countries. The group has a WhatsApp chat with 13 members, although participation is currently low.

Seed to Mouth

Learn more

Description

Food insecurity isn’t only about the seed or the consumer, but also the fragile collaboration and sustainability of processes to ensure that populations can produce, process and consume the food they need. This project aims to generate changes in the way social organisations, local governments and companies in the food sector operate. In the pilot phase, it seeks to generate new narratives of systemic action along with the transition of production/consumption in food systems. In its final version, the plan is to bring changes in the system of cultivation processing and consumption of food in Latin America. These changes aim to impact a system that generates high yields only for some and requires both medium and long-term interventions.
