Parenting and Social Entrepreneurship

This Collaboration provides a safe space for members to connect, share experiences, and learn. It focuses on balancing social entrepreneurship with parenting, addressing practical challenges, and offering support through shared ideas and solutions. The Parenting and Social Entrepreneurship Collaboration of Catalyst Now began during the last Catalysing Change Week in May 2023. Catalyst members interested in mental health and wellbeing held a meeting on Parenting and were delighted, and perhaps a little surprised, at the number of people who attended. There was real enthusiasm for the topic and the many stories shared about the joys and difficulties of bringing up children whilst championing some of the most demanding challenges of the day. As the discussion progressed it seemed as if at times the gruelling challenge of running a social organisation is overwhelming and takes up all the space in a person’s life some of which should be reserved for children and, indeed, family and friends more widely. Some of those attending were managing their family as single parents, others were yet to begin the parenting journey but were thinking of it, others came to the meeting as grandparents. The meeting was blessed with folk from diverse regions of the world and so the question of parenting and social entrepreneurship is clearly strongly influenced by culture and this was shared to some extent. The Collaboration will focus on practical matters, for example how to share, with your child if you work in domestic violence or how to travel with your kids whilst at the same time being “at work”. Knowing that this is not a “one size fits all” kind of question we are keen to create a safe space for sharing anxieties, worries, ideas and practical solutions. The Collaboration is currently co-chaired by Rosemary Gathara, Hannah Morillo, Kate Sachs Leventhal and Chris Underhill.

Kennedys has a global presence, with employees spread throughout five regions: Latin America, Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Asia. Our aim is to make use of Catalyst 2030's incredible networks in order to engage employees in two regions: LATAM and ASIA. Our goal is to use our people's highest and best abilities to generate opportunities for change. No one individual, business, or country can bring about change on its own. We want to collaborate with our employees, clients, communities and other stakeholders across the globe to address the enormous issues of our time. Our biggest asset is the combined talent of our employees, and through our new 'Thrive Together' social impact programme, I hope to bring along my colleagues on this journey for change.

I'm enthusiastic to learn and collaborate with Catalyst 2030's movement. I recently graduated from Tulane University, and I have a deep foundation in Systems Thinking. As a young professional, I am currently seeking opportunities to support solution leaders and gain experience in the field of social innovation and social entrepreneurship. I'm eager to find a way to add value within the target landscape. Absurdity and complexity excite me.

My Motivation to Join Catalyst Now As a passionate social entrepreneur and climate action advocate, my motivation to join Catalyst Now is driven by a deep commitment to systemic change, collaboration, and community-driven solutions that create lasting impact. 1. Driving Systemic Change for Smallholder Farmers & Climate Action Through my work with Bunyala Agri Climate Action Impact Solutions, I have seen firsthand the challenges that smallholder farmers and fisher communities face—climate change, limited market access, high input costs, and a lack of sustainable solutions. By leveraging innovative approaches such as Black Soldier Fly (BSF) feed production, renewable energy solutions, and digital skills training, I aim to scale sustainable and climate-smart agricultural practices that empower these communities. 2. Collaboration as a Key to Transformative Impact I believe in the power of collective action. Catalyst Now presents an incredible opportunity to connect with like-minded changemakers, share knowledge, and co-create solutions that address global challenges. By joining this network, I hope to bring African grassroots innovations to a global stage while also learning from successful models worldwide. 3. Amplifying Local Voices & Unlocking Opportunities Many grassroots initiatives lack the visibility and support needed to scale. Joining Catalyst Now will provide a platform to amplify the voices of local farmers, youth entrepreneurs, and climate advocates, ensuring they access the resources, funding, and partnerships required to accelerate their impact. 4. Advancing the SDGs & Strengthening the Social Entrepreneurship Ecosystem I am committed to advancing SDGs 2 (Zero Hunger), 5 (Gender Equality), 13 (Climate Action), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Through Catalyst Now, I aim to build stronger networks, advocate for policy change, and implement scalable models that create economic opportunities while addressing climate challenges. Conclusion: A Vision for Inclusive and Sustainable Impact By joining Catalyst Now, I am not just looking to connect—I am ready to collaborate, innovate, and drive meaningful change. Together, we can transform communities, uplift small businesses, and build a future where sustainability and inclusivity are at the core of global development. I am excited for this journey and look forward to making an impact alongside fellow changemakers!
