Active Women Arise Africa

Active Women Arise Africa (AWA-Africa) is a humanitarian and feminist organization rooted in South Sudan that champions the empowerment of women, youth, and marginalized groups. Its work spans protection, peacebuilding, gender equality, disability inclusion, and WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) programming. By designing trauma-informed and conflict-sensitive strategies, AWA-Africa supports survivors of gender-based violence, fosters reconciliation in conflict-affected communities, and ensures that women and young people are meaningfully included in leadership and decision-making spaces. The organization also emphasizes resilience-building, helping communities strengthen dignity and wellbeing through practical development initiatives. Beyond its grassroots programming, AWA-Africa plays a vital role in ceremonial and advocacy leadership, crafting dignified tributes and public messages that elevate South Sudan’s image and align national narratives with values of justice, care, and unity. Its intersectional approach blends technical expertise with empathy, ensuring that advocacy is not only strategic but also deeply human. In short, AWA-Africa is both a movement-builder and a protector, advancing feminist leadership while nurturing community resilience and dignity across South Sudan.
