AMBA Estate

Amba Estate is a community-run organic farm and boutique hotel in the Uva mountains of Sri Lanka. Our goal is to maximise local incomes, while preserving the natural environment. Our motto is “If it grows, turn it into a product!”. We want to show local farmers that, rather than selling raw produce at low prices, they can create much higher value products by hand. We produce a range of hand-made teas, coffees, jams, chutneys, spices and herbs. We also operate a 15-room boutique hotel, with 100% local supply-chains. To maximise impact, we encourage others to copy our model. We founded the Ceylon Artisanal Tea Association, with 8 tea estates now following the same model, and many more have applied. These estates now provide significantly increased incomes for more than 1500 people.
