Independent (Amy Slaughter)

I am a refugee assistance professional with 25+ years of experience in both the NGO sector and UN system at international, national, and local levels. For the past 15 years I have helped build the organization "RefugePoint," which partners with refugees in finding lasting solutions. As a start-up leader of the agency, I have served in many capacities over the years, from COO to CSO and now Senior Advisor. In 2018 I envisioned and co-launched (with Women's Refugee Commission) a multi-stakeholder effort called the Refugee Self-Reliance Initiative, which is hosted by RefugePoint and which now includes dozens of leading NGOs, governments, refugee-led organizations, academics and other stakeholders among its members. At RefugePoint we provide direct services to thousands of refugees per year, strengthen the capacity of other organizations in our sector, and influence global refugee policy and practice to achieve systems change.

I hope to make deeper connections with other social entrepreneurs and to help cross-pollinate ideas and best practices globally. I hope to gain a better sense of the landscape -- who's doing what where and how we can grow our collective impact exponentially by working together. I expect to be able to contribute expertise on issues related to refugees and other forced migrants. The needs of these populations cut across all of the SDGs so in a sense we're working on all of them.
