Setting the Stage: Societal Approaches to Disaster Response and Resilience build
In this opening session, the Goonj Founder introduces the SARRD model, an innovative, community-centred approach to disaster risk reduction and resilience. Participants will explore how the societal strategies shared in the presentation can drive systemic change and strengthen local capacity before, during, and after crises.
Sharing the stories & some data points. Showcasing different kinds of disasters & stakeholders, from wildfires to floods, etc. Focusing that money isn’t just the only resource needed (different kinds of resources).
Embed yourself in a community so you’re a trusted resource.
Shifting narrative about disaster response from charity being at the centre of disaster response.
Empowering Teams Through Presence, Regulation and Resilience
Working for social change often means operating in fast-paced, high-stress, emotionally charged environments. Many of us know what it feels like to hold it all together for others—masking stress on the outside while feeling stretched on the inside.
This 1-hour somatic-based workshop is designed specifically for Catalyst members and peers who lead or support teams in these demanding contexts. Together, we’ll explore practical, body-based tools to help you:
Stay grounded under pressure
Navigate conflict with more clarity
Set boundaries without guilt
Lead and collaborate authentically, not reactively
What We’ll Do Together
We’ll look at how stress shows up in the body and impacts the way we make decisions, unpack the neuroscience of trauma responses (fight, flight, freeze, fawn), and practice simple somatic techniques—breathwork, grounding, and micro-movements—that you can use in real time. You’ll also get to experiment with a boundary-setting “mini-lab” that helps you practice saying no with clarity and care.
Why It Matters
Burnout, now officially classified by the WHO as an occupational phenomenon, is a reality many of us face. Teams without psychological safety struggle with poor communication, internalized stress, and high turnover. By learning to regulate stress and foster presence, we can cultivate more resilient movements and communities—where people thrive while driving change.
