What is Systems Change?

Catalyst Now defines systems change as confronting root causes of problems, rather than symptoms. It does this by transforming structures, customs, mindsets, power dynamics, policies and rules and strengthening collective power through the active collaboration of diverse people and organisations.
The iceberg illustration shows different levels at which systemic change can take place: ‘deeper’ changes tend to result in greater impact but less dramatic shifts can pave the way towards these deeper changes.

The Learning Series aims to boost, support and enhance learning for Catalyst Now members
The Learning Series amplifies the systems change movement by fostering continuous learning for social innovators in the Catalyst Now network and beyond. The team helps members achieve systems-level impact through nurturing new ideas, methods, and techniques for systems change work. We do this in a collaborative process of experience and building the sector that influences social entrepreneurship and innovation practice, education and public policy.
