Recanteur is a community-led storytelling platform committed to amplifying the voices of marginalized communities. Our mission is to empower these communities to share their lived experiences, enabling them to have a direct impact on the decisions that affect their lives. We aim to bridge the gap between grassroots voices and decision-makers, ensuring that community perspectives shape the solutions that are developed. Our vision is to create a world where every community, no matter its background or geographical location, has the tools and platform to tell its story. We believe that storytelling is a powerful vehicle for change, capable of preserving culture, promoting understanding, and inspiring lasting transformation. By offering a space where local communities can share their challenges, aspirations, and knowledge, we ensure that their voices are integral to global conversations and policies. The heart of our mission lies in equipping communities with the resources and skills they need to tell their stories authentically. Through simple training programs, we teach community members—whom we call Kathakars (storytellers)—how to document their experiences using accessible tools like mobile phones. These storytellers capture the real-life issues their communities face, such as health, education, gender equality, and climate change, creating a direct line of communication between local voices and decision-makers. Our approach is built on empowerment and inclusion. By enabling communities to create content rooted in their own culture and experiences, we ensure that the stories shared are genuine, impactful, and meaningful. The use of digital tools like smartphones makes storytelling accessible and efficient, allowing community members to engage with decision-makers in real time. The impact of this approach is profound. First, we focus on empowering women, offering them a platform to represent their communities and providing them with alternative livelihoods. Second, our platform serves as a reliable source of authentic content, enabling decision-makers, NGOs, governments, and corporations to craft more relevant and inclusive solutions. Finally, our scalable models ensure that the approach can be adapted to different contexts, allowing for resource-efficient, replicable, and effective solutions. Through continuous outcome analysis and real-time feedback, we have achieved remarkable results with low costs and high deliverables. Recanteur directly contributes to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including gender equality (SDG 5), reduced inequality (SDG 10), and climate action (SDG 13). Our work not only humanizes data but also fosters a more inclusive world where every community’s voice matters, leading to informed decisions that reflect the real needs of those affected.
