Sin Sar Bar (SSB)

What is Sin Sar Bar? (Please Think in English) We are a Myanmar-based creative strategic communications and social change organisation. We use strategic creative communications to address issues and produce a solution in the form of social change. We’ve designed projects on topics ranging from Mental Health to Health and Safety at work, from Sanitary Pad fundraising to Domestic abuse, from Landmine awareness to COVID-19. We’ve also designed projects on Social Cohesion, Human Rights, and the Mental Health of Journalists and Human Rights Workers. Even though we have done projects on many different topics, mental health is one of our strong suits. Hsu, who is one of the co-directors from Sin Sar Bar, studied Psychology in Myanmar. We, the SSB team, would like to pursue more projects on mental health. We have worked on awareness raising campaigns on mental health and offered mental well-being workshops to let people know that it is ok to talk about your mental health and that mental health is also health. We use the Trojan horse method to get engagement from targeted audiences for campaigns on different topics. Which means that the audience are learning something without even realising that they are learning something. For example, we did a project on gender equality. For the campaign, we invited 3 female rappers to talk about their experience and challenges they experience and encounter in a male dominant industry. During the podcast, they did not even mention the word gender equality as people would switch off. Key to this approach is working together with celebrities and social influencers, and using animation, videos, cartoon series, and graphics for audience engagement.
