Geek Girls LatAm

Geek Girls LatAm is a non-profit organization based in Latin America committed to closing gender gaps in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). Since 2016, we have empowered girls, young women, and gender-diverse people from vulnerable communities through education, mentoring, leadership development, and digital skills. Our mission is to create inclusive ecosystems of innovation where women and girls can thrive, lead, and transform their futures through technology and purpose-driven careers. We envision a region where gender equity is a reality and technological development is human-centered, inclusive, and sustainable. I am Joanna Prieto, co-founder and CEO of Geek Girls LatAm. I am a social entrepreneur, public speaker, and digital humanist with 20 years of experience in education, technology, and social innovation. My work focuses on empowering women and youth, building bridges between the tech world and human well-being. I have led multiple regional initiatives in partnership with international organizations, governments, and the private sector to foster inclusive leadership, future skills, and digital equity. My personal mission is to help people—especially women—rediscover their authentic power and potential through education, connection, and collective action. As an organization, we are committed to systemic change and to becoming a lighthouse for other social enterprises across the region. Together, we believe that data, education, and empathy can transform lives—and that no girl should be left behind in the digital revolution.

As a long-time advocate for gender equity, education, and technology in Latin America, I would love to contribute by sharing insights, tools, and learnings from our work with Geek Girls LatAm — especially in building inclusive, community-driven ecosystems in emerging markets. I could contribute through speaking opportunities, knowledge-sharing sessions, or co-creating learning spaces focused on digital equity, AI for social good, and youth leadership.
