“Kiana’s Mission” Documentary Screening and Q&A with Filmmakers
Kiana’s Mission tells the story of Kiana Calloway, wrongfully convicted at 16 and imprisoned 17 years in Louisiana. After release, he founded a mentoring program for at-risk youth and joined Roots of Renewal, embracing the Poverty Stoplight to help formerly incarcerated men build purpose and end poverty. Using it himself, Kiana saw what change he could lead and what required policy. He became a force for prison reform, including restoring voting rights and working to end Louisiana’s non-unanimous jury law, a Jim Crow relic. Q&A with Kiana and filmmakers will discuss the decade-long documentary process, why it was an important story to tell, and how the Stoplight is working to eliminate poverty in communities all over the world.
