CC – Small Islands. Big Solutions
Island nations face unique challenges when it comes to food waste. Limited land, resources, infrastructure, and dependence on imports can make food systems particularly vulnerable—but they can also create the conditions for bold, innovative solutions.
In this Conversation Café, we’ll explore what makes island food systems different, why food waste is such a pressing challenge, and what innovations are already working across island communities, including the Caribbean and beyond.
Together, we’ll ask: Could island nations become global leaders in food waste prevention? And what could become possible if island communities, innovators, governments, businesses, and civil society worked together?
This will be a space to exchange experiences, surface local solutions, and learn from one another—moving from the challenges islands face to the opportunities they can lead.
Key questions we’ll explore:
– Why are islands uniquely vulnerable to food waste?
– What makes island food systems different?
– What innovations are already working?
– What role can collaboration play in accelerating change?
By the end of the conversation, participants will co-create a practical “Top 5 Actions for Island Nations to Reduce Food Waste”—a shared set of priorities that can inspire action, collaboration, and further innovation across island communities.
