Not School — Learning without School
Learning is a natural phenomenon that everyone engages in throughout their lives. It often stems from personal curiosity, relationships, and random events like visiting a museum. In reality, most human learning occurs outside of school; only a small portion of a person’s lifetime is spent in formal education. ‘Not School’ includes play, observing others, trying new things, participating in sports, watching television, absorbing information from YouTube and social media, constructing physical objects, drawing, making music, Scouting, religion, and much more. Using a systems-change perspective, we will see how standardised curricula and rigid structures hinder innovation. We will explore ways to change policies, incentives, and mindsets. Our aim is to transform entire systems, not just make superficial updates classrooms.
