Appui au Developpement de l’Enfant en Detresse ADED

ADED works with a child-centered community-based development approach which is based on the postulate that families and communities are in better position than anyone else to identify children's needs and effectively mobilize the resources needed to meet them. Its strategy is to sustain inclusive empowerment of children and young people through income-generating activities via self-help group’s approach linked to access and quality of education, health, technical vocational training, employment and protection, among others. The individual child development plan form the basis of our support and the integration of Community Based Rehabilitation activities package in the health zone’s primary health care with state and community contributions are ultimate goals. From successes, lessons learned and challenges, we must keep our focus on the prevention and inclusion of disability and strengthen our organization profile as Community-Based Disability Inclusive Development (CBID) based on the two key principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): • Leave no-one behind • universality. The ADEDs program is innovative because: It has a clear exit-strategy from the beginning of the program - It is implemented in direct partnership with health zone (state structures) to support the implementation of DR Congo national Community Based Rehabilitation Strategy - The state participates to match the funding in the form of salaries of core staff- community based rehabilitation facilitators - Not to mention, the DRC context is an extreme context to begin with and the program benefits most marginalized sections of populations: children and youths with disabilities - The program mobilizes mother champions, youth with disabilities and self-help groups to influence the community in the benefit of children and youths with disabilities. The organization has a five-year strategic plan and its projects are in line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular Goals 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 16. , 17. The projects are designed and implemented with reference to the national agenda, in particular the National Strategic Development Plan 2019-2023 (pillar number 1: development of human capital, social development and culture, pillar 3: consolidation of economic growth, diversification and transformation of the economy, pillar 5: protection of the environment, fight against climate change, sustainable development and balance). Project participants (beneficiaries) are involved in all project cycles: During the needs assessment (the project design is based on the needs of the participants with a sharing of the roles of the main stakeholders); during the implementation ((accompaniment of children to care, contributions through migration documents, school fees, payment of certain incoming physiotherapists, perform basic physiotherapist exercises, home education, production of local technical aids), mobilization of funds via self-help groups/SHGs, mutual learning between parents, suggestion of necessary actions or changes in actions,). During the project cycle, participants provide feedback that contributes to the effectiveness of the project and its possible adjustment. And by the end, the impact assessment of the project is carried out jointly with the participants and the main stakeholders.
