ASSOCIATION HAND ON HEART (HOH)

Hand On Heart is a community-based, non-profit mental health organization founded in 2009 in Cameroon. Our mission is to improve access to quality mental health care and promote mental well-being, particularly in rural and underserved communities where services remain limited. We work to reduce stigma, strengthen community awareness and support the integration of mental health into primary health care through capacity building, partnerships and advocacy,. Our activities include community mental health education, free psychosocial support, school-based mental health promotion, family peer support, training for frontline health workers and social inclusion initiatives for people with lived experience of mental health conditions. Our vision is a society where everyone can access compassionate, community-based mental health support without discrimination, regardless of where they live. We believe that collaboration, innovation and the meaningful participation of people with lived experience are essential to building stronger and more inclusive mental health systems. Hand On Heart actively collaborates with local communities, health professionals, government institutions, international organizations and civil society networks to create sustainable solutions that improve mental health and well-being across Cameroon and beyond.

I am joining Catalyst Now because I believe that lasting social change happens through collaboration, shared learning and collective action. As the founder of Hand On Heart, I have seen both the challenges and the opportunities of building mental health services in resource-limited settings. I hope to contribute our experience in community mental health, stigma reduction, family peer support nd the integration of mental health into primary health care
