Banguka Development Association

Mission The mission of the Banguka Development Association is to promote sustainable and inclusive development in Burundi by fighting poverty, protecting children, women, and vulnerable groups, strengthening access to quality education including sustainable environmental education and dignified livelihoods, while fostering the empowerment of youth, women, and marginalized communities. Vision: A Burundi where every individual, regardless of gender, age, or social background, lives with dignity in a just, inclusive, and resilient society where children are protected, women and youth are empowered, communities are self-sufficient, and future generations inherit a healthy environment and equal opportunities to thrive. Our progress towards our Mission and Vision Since our founding, Banguka Development Association has taken meaningful steps toward building a more inclusive and sustainable Burundi. Below are the key achievements we have recorded so far: 1. ODD News, Online Newsletter: We launched ODD News, an online newsletter dedicated to highlighting initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through this platform, we aim to showcase inspiring work being done across Burundi and beyond, encouraging individuals, organizations, and communities to take action and do more for sustainable development. 2. Socio-Economic Empowerment Program (Autonomisation Socio-Économique): We initiated a socio-economic empowerment program targeting street children, youth, and women. Through this program, we have: • Delivered training sessions on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness and prevention • Facilitated personal development workshops to build confidence, skills, and resilience • Supported vulnerable children in Bururi Province in returning to school, restoring their access to quality education 3. Environment and Climate Change Program: We launched an environmental action program with a focus on awareness and community engagement. Activities carried out include: • Organizing plastic bottle collection campaigns in the streets to reduce pollution and promote a cleaner environment • Conducting climate change and environmental education sessions in multiple schools, equipping young people with knowledge to protect their surroundings

We hope to contribute to the movement by sharing our knowledge, experience, and skills gained through our work on the ground in Burundi particularly in the areas of child protection, youth and women empowerment, environmental awareness, and community development. At the same time, we see this as a two-way exchange. We are eager to learn from other members of the movement drawing from their expertise, approaches, and innovations to strengthen and improve our own programs and impact.
