Dunia Bora

Dunia Bora is a Kenya-based social enterprise building a dryland circular economy around Opuntia cactus. We work with communities in Laikipia and other dryland regions to manage invasive cactus by turning it into value-added products, sustainable materials, and livelihood opportunities. Our work connects climate adaptation, sustainable agriculture, food systems, circular economy, and ethical materials. We engage farmers, community suppliers, artisans, schools, researchers, and market partners to show how an invasive plant can be managed through enterprise, income creation, ecosystem restoration, and locally led innovation. Our mission is to help dryland communities move from climate vulnerability to climate opportunity. Our vision is a future where communities in arid regions lead new models of restoration, enterprise, and circular production.

I want to join Catalyst Now to learn from people building real solutions and to find partners who understand systems change. At Dunia Bora, we work with communities in Kenya’s drylands to manage invasive cactus and turn it into useful products, materials and income. We can share what we are learning from farmers, suppliers, testing, product development and market access. We also hope to find support with funding, technical knowledge and partnerships that can help us grow the work responsibly.
