Generation Alive (GAL)

Generation Alive (GAL) is a Zambian feminist, youth- and women-led civil society organisation founded in 2010, working to advance gender equality, social justice, and inclusive development. GAL operates at the intersection of education, health, governance, and climate justice, with a strong focus on addressing structural inequalities affecting girls and young women, particularly those from marginalised communities. Our mission is to build the collective voice, power, and leadership of girls and young women to shape decisions, influence systems, and drive change in their communities. Our vision is a society in which all people especially girls and young women fully enjoy their human rights and actively participate in decision-making at all levels. GAL works across community, national, and regional levels through research, community engagement, leadership development, and policy advocacy. We focus not only on service delivery but also on shifting systems, social norms, and policy environments that sustain inequality. Our work addresses interconnected challenges including access to education, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender-based violence (GBV), child marriage, and economic empowerment. We bring a strong commitment to systems change and cross-sector collaboration, working with government institutions, civil society organisations, traditional leaders, and communities to co-create solutions that are locally grounded and scalable. GAL has contributed to regional and national evidence generation, including serving as the Zambia lead for the Schools Out! project led by the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) of the University of Pretoria, and conducting research on the intersection of climate change, education, and child protection outcomes. GAL also plays a national leadership role as Chairperson of the Network on Ending Child Marriage in Zambia, contributing to strategic coordination, policy engagement, and collective action across a broad coalition of stakeholders. Through our work, we directly support communities while also strengthening ecosystems, influencing policy, and contributing to broader movements for gender justice and systems transformation. We are particularly interested in joining Catalyst Now to deepen collaboration, share learning, and contribute to global efforts advancing locally-led, systems-driven solutions to complex social challenges.

I was motivated to join Catalyst Now because I believe that the complex social challenges facing our communities including gender inequality, child marriage, barriers to sexual and reproductive health and rights, youth unemployment, and climate injustice require collective action, innovative solutions, and cross-sector collaboration. Throughout my career, I have worked at the intersection of human rights, gender equality, governance, and youth leadership, supporting communities and institutions to advance sustainable and transformative change. As a feminist leader and social impact practitioner, I recognize that no single organization can address systemic challenges alone. Catalyst Now's commitment to connecting social innovators, fostering collaboration, and accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals strongly aligns with my values and approach to change-making. I am particularly interested in learning from a diverse global network of changemakers, sharing lessons from Zambia and Southern Africa, and contributing expertise in gender equality, SRHR, child protection, movement building, and policy advocacy. Being part of Catalyst Now provides an opportunity to strengthen partnerships, exchange knowledge, amplify community-led solutions, and contribute to collective efforts that advance social justice and human dignity. I am eager to both learn from and contribute to a global community committed to creating a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable world.
