Green Leone
I am Moinina Koroma, an environmental activist and community development practitioner from Bo City, Sierra Leone, and the Founder and Executive Director of Green Leone. My work focuses on advancing climate justice, sustainable livelihoods, and environmental education in vulnerable communities that are disproportionately affected by climate change, poor waste management, and food insecurity. Over the years, I have worked closely with youth groups, farmers, women’s associations, and local authorities to design and implement practical, community-led solutions that address waste management, urban farming, environmental conservation, and climate awareness. I strongly believe that real change begins at the grassroots level, where people are empowered with knowledge, tools, and opportunities to improve their own environment and livelihoods. Through Green Leone and my personal advocacy, I have led initiatives on waste-to-resource programs, youth training on environmental practices, urban and peri-urban farming support, tree planting campaigns, and climate education activities in schools and communities. My approach combines environmental action with social inclusion, ensuring that young people and women are active participants in building resilient communities. My mission is to inspire and mobilize communities to take ownership of their environment by turning environmental challenges into opportunities for learning, employment, and sustainable development. I am particularly passionate about equipping young people with green skills that enable them to become leaders and change-makers in the fight against climate change. My vision is to see communities in Sierra Leone and across Africa where clean environments, food security, and climate resilience are not privileges but everyday realities. I envision a future where waste is managed as a resource, urban spaces support food production, and environmental education is integrated into daily life, empowering communities to thrive in harmony with nature.
