Independent (Bridget Mafusire)

I envision a world characterized by peace, justice, and equitable resource distribution. My mission is to support changemakers through intellectual means. Since 2018, I have served as the Regional Legal Advisor (Africa) for a US-registered international non-profit organization. My focus has been on developing a social enterprise support program in Africa while also working with civil society to advance media freedoms, digital rights, transparency, accountability, and good governance. I'm passionate about empowering entrepreneurs and exploring how the law and development intersect, particularly in relation to social entrepreneurs. Recently, I completed a course at the University of Cape Town on Systems Change and Social Impact. Before joining the non-profit world I practiced law in Harare, Zimbabwe focusing on commercial law, which ignited in me a passion to make a positive impact through my work. Prior to that I served in government as Legal officer in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and Office of the Attorney General of Zimbabwe (Civil Division).

I'm Bridget Mafusire, a legal practitioner and data protection specialist based in Zimbabwe, working across Africa at the intersection of digital rights, governance, and social justice. I'm currently with the International Senior Lawyers Project, where I lead various initiatives, including on human rights, rule of la,w and technical assistance projects. My motivation for joining Catalyst Now 2030 is rooted in a deep belief that the systems shaping our digital and socio-economic futures must be inclusive, rights-respecting, and designed with the people they’re meant to serve. Being part of this network offers a rare opportunity to connect with changemakers across disciplines and geographies, exchange bold ideas, and co-create strategies that challenge extractive models and promote equity in tech, climate, and development. I’m particularly excited to learn from others tackling structural inequality through innovative approaches and to contribute my legal perspective to shared causes. I look forward to connecting, collaborating, and amplifying impact together.
