The United Nations Youth Association-Nigeria (UNYA-NG) is a vibrant youth-led organization dedicated to promoting the ideals and principles of the United Nations among Nigerian youths. As the Director of Sustainable Development Goals Awareness Campaigns, I'm passionate about contributing to UNYA-NG's mission to interest Nigerian students and youths in the activities of the United Nations and its specialized agencies. Our Mission UNYA-NG's mission is built on cultivating an objective outlook on national and international issues, promoting sustainable development, and empowering young people to become active global citizens. By studying the nature and workings of the United Nations, we aim to propagate the ideals and principles of the UN, working towards national economic, social, and cultural liberation. Objectives Our objectives are centred around: Understanding the UN: Educating young Nigerians about the UN's role in promoting peace, security, and sustainable development globally. Promoting UN Ideals: Inspiring young people to strive for peace, justice, and human rights, both locally and globally. Empowering Youth*: Providing young Nigerians with the tools and resources needed to succeed and become leaders in their fields. Activities To achieve our objectives, UNYA-NG conducts various activities, including: Educational Programs: Workshops, seminars, and training sessions on sustainable development, leadership, and global citizenship. Social and Cultural Events: Cultural exchanges, debates, and community service projects that promote cross-cultural understanding and social cohesion. Professional Development*: Career development initiatives, mentorship programs, and networking opportunities that help young Nigerians build successful careers. Affiliations As a member of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) Youth Network, UNYA-NG is part of a global movement that connects young people from around the world. This affiliation provides opportunities for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and collective action on pressing global issues. Impact By joining UNYA-NG, young Nigerians can become part of a dynamic community that shares their passion for creating positive change. Through our programs and activities, we empower young people to: 1.Develop leadership skills and build confidence 2.Network with like-minded individuals and organizations 3.Access opportunities for personal and professional growth 4.Contribute to sustainable development and social justice Awareness and Action As the Director of Sustainable Development Goals Awareness Campaigns, my role is crucial in promoting awareness about the SDGs and inspiring action among young Nigerians. By working together, we can create a brighter future for all, where everyone has access to quality education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. In Nigeria, awareness about the SDGs is growing, with 63% of Nigerians familiar with the goals. However, more needs to be done to ensure that everyone understands the importance of achieving these goals by 2030. Conclusion The United Nations Youth Association-Nigeria is a powerful platform for young Nigerians to engage with global issues, build their skills and knowledge, and make a meaningful impact in their communities. With its mission-driven approach and commitment to empowering youth, UNYA-NG is poised to inspire a new generation of leaders who will shape the future of Nigeria and the world.
