Independent (Takudzwa Makoni)
I am a Communications Officer working in the disability inclusion and social development sector in Zimbabwe. I currently serve at Nzeve Deaf Centre, where I support strategic communication efforts that advance the rights, dignity, and inclusion of persons with disabilities across communities.
My work focuses on strengthening organisational visibility, ethical storytelling, and evidence-based communication. I develop and manage content across multiple platforms, including impact stories, newsletters, reports, website content, and social media, ensuring that information is accurate, accessible, and respectful of lived experience. Through this work, I contribute to advocacy, stakeholder engagement and resource mobilisation.
I work closely with programme teams, partners, and communities to document and communicate initiatives across key thematic areas such as early intervention for children with disabilities, inclusive education, health and wellness, inclusive economic empowerment, and disability advocacy. A core aspect of my role is translating complex programme work into clear, human-centred narratives that support learning, accountability and systems change.
My mission is to use communication as a strategic tool to promote disability inclusion, equity, and social justice, ensuring that persons with disabilities and their families are visible, heard, and meaningfully represented in development processes. My vision is a society where inclusive policies and practices are informed by credible evidence, ethical storytelling and the leadership of persons with disabilities.
Through my work at Nzeve Deaf Centre, I aim to contribute to stronger, more inclusive organisations and to networks committed to advancing disability rights and inclusive development. I am interested in connecting with practitioners and organisations working in disability inclusion, advocacy, communications, and community-led change and in sharing knowledge that strengthens collective impact.
