The Movement of Young People for the Preservation of Aquatic Ecosystems (MJPEA) is a non-profit, independent, apolitical and non-religious organization. It was created in accordance with the legal framework governing civil society organizations and operates with no partisan or discriminatory objectives. The organization is open, inclusive, and works in the general interest. Its headquarters is located in Ganvié, and its duration is unlimited unless dissolved in accordance with its statutes.
MJPEA works mainly in the field of aquatic ecosystems, with a strong focus on lakes, wetlands, rivers and other water bodies. The organization is committed to the protection, conservation, restoration and sustainable management of aquatic ecosystems, while addressing the environmental, social and economic challenges faced by communities that depend on these ecosystems.
The mission of MJPEA is to protect, conserve, enhance and restore aquatic ecosystems through inclusive, social and sustainable actions. The organization promotes responsible environmental practices, community participation, youth engagement and local solutions to environmental degradation, pollution and the overexploitation of aquatic resources.
The vision of MJPEA is to make Benin a reference country in the preservation of aquatic ecosystems, by inspiring and mobilizing young people to actively contribute to ecological transition and sustainable development. This vision is built on youth leadership, community involvement and long-term environmental responsibility.
To achieve its mission and vision, MJPEA works to preserve aquatic ecosystems, fight pollution, promote sanitation and sustainable management of wetlands, and encourage the valorization of invasive aquatic plants, particularly water hyacinth. The organization also seeks to create social and economic opportunities linked to water resources, while contributing to the promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
