SEVAK SOCIETY FOR EMPOWERMENT THROUGH VOLUNTARY ACTION IN KARNATAKA

SEVAK, an acronym for the "Society for Empowerment through Voluntary Action in Karnataka," was established in 2009. It operates as a registered Society under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act of 1960. SEVAK focuses its efforts on rural, urban, and tribal communities within the districts of Belagavi, Dharwad, Vijayapura, and Bagalkote in Karnataka. Specifically, the organization targets early married girls, adolescent girls from vulnerable communities, women, domestic workers, and tribal communities who face social and economic disadvantages, including inadequate access to essential healthcare and educational facilities. SEVAK's ultimate vision is to foster a society that embodies equality, justice, and sustainability. It envisions a just society wherein all children and families lead an empowered life. Central to this vision is the belief in the "Right to life with dignity for all." To achieve these objectives, SEVAK endeavours to empower socially and economically marginalized sections of society, namely women, children, the elderly, and disabled individuals. It does so by providing advisory services, disseminating information, rendering essential services, and collaborating with intermediary organizations to enhance self-reliance through cooperation, facilitation, and necessary support. SEVAK has been actively focusing on five key areas of impact, which include addressing fundamental human necessities like education, healthcare, and housing. Our efforts also extend to advocating for the rights of children, empowering economically disadvantaged women, creating opportunities for livelihoods among youth, women, and farming communities, and implementing effective disaster management strategies. Further, SEVAK's core values revolve around the intrinsic worth of every human being. It upholds the principles of equity, justice, solidarity, transparency, accountability, professionalism, integrity, respect, and trust. Approaching its work through service-based and community-based strategies, SEVAK focuses on a range of thematic areas, which include meeting the basic needs of the impoverished, protecting and promoting child rights, bolstering women's empowerment, promoting livelihood opportunities, fostering community health, and effectively managing disasters.
