Strathmore University Nonprofits, Social Enterprises and Philanthropy (SUNSEP)
Strathmore University Nonprofits, Social Enterprises, and Philanthropy (SUNSEP) Hub is a flagship platform at Strathmore University Business School dedicated to advancing social impact across Africa. It brings together nonprofits, social enterprises, philanthropic actors, researchers, and policymakers to foster innovation, collaboration, and ethical leadership within the social sector.
The Hub’s mission is to empower change agents through capacity building, research, knowledge sharing, and sustainable funding approaches. It aims to strengthen the effectiveness and long-term sustainability of social impact organizations by supporting governance, leadership development, and strategic financing models. Its vision is to serve as a leading platform for social good in Africa, catalyzing transformative and inclusive development.
SUNSEP operates across four key pillars: nonprofits, social enterprises, philanthropy, and a Social Innovation Fund. Through these pillars, it supports organizations in improving management and governance practices, promotes market-driven solutions to social challenges, and strengthens philanthropic ecosystems, including corporate and community-based giving. The Social Innovation Fund further provides financial and technical support to scale impactful initiatives.
The Hub’s core activities include capacity building through training and mentorship programmes, research and knowledge generation, policy advocacy, and facilitating access to funding and partnerships. It also convenes stakeholders through workshops, conferences, and collaborative platforms to drive dialogue and sector-wide learning.
Overall, SUNSEP serves as a catalyst for building a more resilient, innovative, and financially sustainable social impact ecosystem in Kenya and across Africa
