Chris Underhill Honored for 40 Years of Impact with ADD International

Celebrating 40 years of ADD International: Chris Underhill recognized for his lifelong commitment to disability justice
Most people know Chris Underhill as a prominent social entrepreneur, mentor, and trainer, recognized for his global work in the field of mental health. However, he has also dedicated a significant portion of his career to working for the rights of people with disabilities and is the founder of ADD International.
“Disability is a revolutionary movement – about how disabled people can liberate themselves”.
On June 5th, as part of ADD International’s 40th anniversary celebration, Chris was honored for his invaluable contribution to strengthening disability-led organizations. The recognition took place at a parliamentary reception in London, commemorating four decades of social impact.
Over these 40 years, ADD International, along with thousands of activists and movements for justice for people with disabilities, has advanced its mission in 12 countries. This anniversary comes at a crucial time, when concrete actions are required to protect the progress made and continue building a more just and inclusive world, especially in the face of increasing attacks on the rights of people with disabilities, both in the United Kingdom and globally.
“We wanted to shift the narrative from ‘charity’ and ‘gift giving’, which can be quite short term, to people being able to take charge of their own affairs.”
From Catalyst Now, we extend our sincere congratulations to Chris Underhill for the vision that gave rise to this organization in Zimbabwe, and to the ADD International team for their tireless work for systemic change.
